THIS WAS OUR 2013 JAYCO FLIGHT SWIFT 198RD, PARKED AT THE TOMBSTONE TERRITORIES RV PARK IN ARIZONA

Goodbye Arizona and hello New Mexico

Where are we now?
Rose Valley RV Park, Silver City, NM

Friday morning we rolled out of that neat K&N RV Park we had called our home for 5 weeks. The place did not offer any perks such as community hall, swimming pool or showers and rest rooms, but it had free wifi throughout the park, well maintained grounds, paved roads, BBQ pits with gazebo shelters, three horseshoe pits, a couple of fenced dog parks and the price was reasonable at $250/month plus 18cents/kw for electricity. Additional days would be charged at $10/day.  We met nice people there that were transients just like us as well as long-timers (no TT) and some who worked at the US Army base in Sierra Vista.

Our travel day sure was a windy one. I guess it was windy all over Arizona and New Mexico. Other than some wind on the road and a bit of an overcast sky, we enjoyed the drive. We saw a couple of flashing signs warning us of blowing sand and low visibility, but it wasn’t that bad that we had to stop by the road. There is a lot of copper mining going on in this area of NM and if you think the hole of the copper mine in Bisbee is big, you haven’t seen the one they have here. Ooh my golly they are enormous.

We arrived in good time at the “Rose Valley RV Park” in Silver City, New Mexico, where we had a reservation. The sites are very spacious here. We have a pull-through site and every driveway has a little wooden enclosure where you could sit in privacy and be sheltered from the elements.

Later in the afternoon and evening the wind increased so much that our travel trailer sometimes shook. The roads here are gravel and sand and yes, here the wind picked up a lot of dust and covered everything in the park.  Later on we got a tiny little bit of rain, mixing the dust just into a nice gray paste that looks like cement, all over our clean in Sierra Vista washed truck and camper. Boohoo!

Before breakfast this morning Benno went out in his jammies and took a picture of the mess. Good thing they have drive-through carwashes here in town.

The temperatures had plummeted too overnight to a -6C/21F, (not a problem as we had the electric heater going, the park charges $18/night incl. electric and with our Passport America discount) but as soon as the sun came out this morning, it warmed up nicely making our planned trip to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument high up in the Gila Mountains a great outing. However, for the pictures and blog post you’ll have to wait because I have a ton of pictures to sort through, so stay tuned….

Thanks for dropping by.

    1. We knew it would be a bit windy, but nothing like the sand dunes here, I guess.

We want to see the Cliff Dwellings, searched for them last year but couldn't find them. Another time for sure, looking forward to your pictures.
