Tidbits of last week

While we are down here in Central Florida this winter, we can take advantage of visiting stores of our interests that don’t have branches in Canada. As an example, Benno discovered that a Rockler Woodworking Hardware store was located in the Palm Springs Center in Altamonte Fl., just north of Orlando. Last week we took a trip down from our RV Park along the US-441S, which turned out to be a more scenic and a direct route than the alternative route along I-95. Rockler has a branch in Detroit that we had visited several years ago, but it was a much smaller store than this one. I was totally amazed at the massive inventory of woodworking machinery, exotic wood and all kinds of gadgets on the market related to woodworking. Although I just accompanied Benno so that he could satisfy his curiosity and browse to his heart’s content, I did learn a few things and enjoyed looking at various displays.

Also of notice for the guys reading this blog, Ocala is not only Horse Country and the home of John Travolta with his airplanes in our neighborhood, our Wandering Oaks RV Park here is known for dog lovers and Harley Davidson fans. We have a load of several interesting motorbikes here in our park. They are head turners and the guys take good care of them and are proud to display their custom made bikes. Here are two of them parked just opposite of our travel trailer and these are just two of a few.

And I have been wondering how they fit those 6 little pooches into their ATV (just kidding ;-)

There is a black dog behind the three on the right

Thanks for dropping by everyone!

  1. Wow, you realize that is between $30,000-40,000 worth of French Bulldogs right there?!?

Wish we had a woodworking store like that around here.

    1. I believe those are his pets and not for sale, and yes, Benno would like a woodworking store like that in our area too. We have "Lee Valley Tools" that would come close to Rockler.

    1. Yes, we do admire the bikes although we are not into that. There is always something here to see that interests us. However, there are NO mountains here to admire the view!

  4. While you're here in our neck of the woods, hope you'll take the opportunity to visit Rainbow Springs, Crystal River, Yankeetown and Homosassa Springs. All within a short drive of Ocala.

    1. Thanks for the tips and we will put them on to our list of sites to visit. However, we've been to the Crystal River and watched the Manatees. See my blog posting from February 11th, 2016 titled: "A day watching manatees" it was awesome to observe these gentle giants.

  5. The US certainly has many more interesting stores than we do in Canada. Those bikes are a labor of love and lovely to see. Not sure I would want to listen them start up several times per day.

    1. No matter which country I am in I find it fun to explore the stores and their merchandise. Those bikes are taken good care of and actually are not used that much, at least not after hours.

  6. I always find it interesting to read about stores in the US that we have never heard of until a Canadian writes about it...:) Though Tom is not in to woodworking so that might explain it. Beautiful bikes. Sounds like you are enjoying a wonderful winter.

    1. I can understand that you could not possibly know about all the different stores ;-) Benno was not into woodworking either, but he has a project going so he's learning. We are just relaxing and chilling at the park.
