We almost missed this little treasure

Where are we now?
K&N RV Park, Huachuca City, AZ

Thanks to our fellow RVers Kelly and Al Bossence from Travel With The Bayfield Bunch for the suggestion to go and see the private shrine of "Our Lady Of The Sierras" with chapel and cross.

On our various trips past Sierra Vista along highway 92 we passed this small chapel, which sits high up on the eastside of the Huachucan mountain range, at an altitude of 5200 feet and it had not occurred to us to go and see it. Today early in the morning we drove up a steep paved road and parked at the second highest of the two parking areas. (Thanks Kelly + Al, the hill was definitely steep) There are stairs as an alternative to driving up and I took a few just for the views, which are fantastic of course, but Benno with the dogs drove up in the Ram truck.

Towering over the chapel is a 75-foot tall Celtic type cross and a 30-foot sculpture of Madonna sitting next to the chapel. She is pointing toward the cross.  We climbed every stairway above the chapel to look at the shrine, the small waterfall and various angel statues.

The inside of the chapel is new and the atmosphere I thought was serene and peaceful. This jewel of extreme quality workmanship has to be more protected, in our humble opinion. Apparently the original chapel was destroyed during the monument fire that came through the Huachuca Mountains in 2011 but the chapel was restored beautifully to its original size.

We were glad we came and I let the rest of the pictures speak for them selves.  If you are interested in the history of this shrine, there is a lengthy but very fascinating story on their website: The seeds of the building of the shrine.

We will be moving on, so stay tuned for our next adventures in a new location.
